SonicWALL's focus in Internet security includes:

Firewalling

Virtual Private Networking Upgrade

Content Filtering Upgrade

Moving forward, SonicWALL's RTOS (Real-Time Operating System) architecture is enabling the quick development of products to meet the rapidly changing needs of the market. This includes SonicWALL offering products that meet the security needs of large, high performance networks as well as cable modem and xDSL users at prices and feature sets previously unattainable. SonicWALL has also implemented the first of a variety of VPN solutions targeted specifically at the needs of branch offices and remote users. These new technologies allow businesses to communicate securely over the Internet, bypassing the public phone network and its related high costs. These exciting technologies are being developed on top of the RTOS architecture already established by SonicWALL and take advantage of its award-winning ease-of-use.

Now that small to mid-sized companies have realized the potential of the Internet and network computing, networks are increasingly being implemented within business operations. These companies need to protect their intellectual property and proprietary information by implementing security measures to combat potential intruders and hackers. International Data Corporation predicts that of the estimated 7.1 million small businesses in the United States, the percentage connected to the Internet will grow from about 40 percent in 1996 to about 70 percent in the year 2000. However, Reed Exhibitions has found that 62 percent of professional advisors, such as accountants, lawyers, advertising and PR agencies, are using the Internet without implementation of any security measures.

If proprietary information is unprotected and readily available to hackers or competitors, companies cannot maintain their competitive edge and put valuable business data at risk. Additionally, productivity is lost when employees access objectionable or time-wasting Web sites and newsgroups. Content filtering can eliminate loss in productivity and enforce a company's policy on Internet usage. A number of companies are addressing these issues for large-scale enterprise networks, however, few low-end solutions for smaller companies currently exist.

SonicWALL

SonicWALL is an Internet security appliance that provides security from outside intruders. SonicWALL offers firewalling with stateful packet inspection, Denial of Service (DoS) attack prevention and Network Address Translation (NAT), IPSec Virtual Private Networking, filtering of Java, ActiveX, and cookies, and content filtering of objectionable Web sites and newsgroups. Most security products are geared to large networks, which according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, comprise only one percent of all networks. This forces medium and small businesses to choose between a costly and complex Internet security solution, or no solution. The lack of affordable Internet security solutions for small and mid-size companies presents a significant opportunity for SonicWALL, who is well positioned in a strong market.
